The growing disconnect between humans and nature, driven by urbanization and industrialization, calls for innovative solutions. Addressing this, this project integrates posthumanist perspectives into design to create meaningful interactions between humans and non-human entities. By promoting a shift away from anthropocentric views, the project aims to enhance ecological awareness and connection while being a stepping stone for further practical posthuman design.
Human disconnection from nature has far reaching social, psychological, and physical consequences. Current capitalist production models often neglect long-term ecological sustainability, worsening climate change impacts. Therefore, there is a critical need to reframe humanity’s relationship with nature, creating a balanced and sustainable coexistence. This project aims to create opportunities for meaningful human-non-human interactions and raise awareness about the ecological importance of non-human species.
The goal is to make posthumanist principles practical and accessible, encouraging a societal shift towards ecological harmony. To achieve this, the project employs a multifaceted approach. Through extensive research and iterative prototyping, the design process led to the development of B&Bee. This product-service system encourages users to build habitats for pollinators, fostering ecological awareness and interaction. Through a network of partnerships, B&Bee provides the created community with numerous learning opportunities and possibilities for continued engagement.
